A tired but meaningful day
I finally went out after so many weeks. I really had a meaningful Saturday by contributing a part to the needy people of Singapore. This program was organized by SP primers. There were few other CCA like MENTORING participated in this event too. Today, we had to do door-to-door collection of food items from Yew Tee neighbourhood. This event was not as scary as I thought it would be. What I feared most was the dogs and nasty people. That Afiq imitated the barking sound of a dog once in awhile which made me screamed. >.<
Surprisingly, there were really nice and sweet people. A senior approached a unit which only had an old lady at home. The old lady thought that the amount of food she gave was not enough. So she asked one of them to accompany her to a nearby NTUC to buy MORE. The quantity of food she bought was enough for four families! It was really so kind of her.
The residents of Yew Tee were already being informed about this program some time ago so some of them had already prepared their food items and waited for us to collect. How nice of them! Some of them really donated a lot of food items.
There were definitely some unkind ones. I think some of you might even laugh at their stupidity. Adeline and I went to approach a unit. We heard some noises inside the house but they did not want to open the door. Seriously, are we so scary? I doubt so. We were told to be nice to people who were not willing to donate anything. Logically, it’s their own will to whether they want to donate anything or not. This is quite understandable.
A friend and I caught someone red-handed. She said that she approached that unit not too long ago but no one opened the door. Then, when her friend pressed the door bell, she quickly opened the door. She showed a signal and told her to quickly come in.
Surprisingly, while collecting the food items from door-to-door, I was not at all tired. I even wished to do more unless they told us to sit down to wait for the rest of them to come. =p
My day would not just end like this!
After that, ls, Adeline, Afiq and I went to Thing’s BBQ. The traveling part was quite terrible. We had to travel from Yew Tee to Potong Pasir. Anyway, we were one of the earliest to reach there. As we had to wait for more people to come, so we had to sit at his house first. A few of us played some computer games. By then, most of us complained that we were quite hungry but we still had to wait for the set up of the fire. I did a part by fanning the charcoal. =p There was really a lot of nice food. I think I ate the most though I helped a bit by preparing and barbequing some food too. I would walk to another place for food if there was no more cooked food left. I was quite busy with eating. I think Thing thought that I helped a lot so he thought that I hardly ate anything. Before I left, he kept asking me whether I had enough food. By now, my mentoring friends would have known that Chu Er has a monster appetite =D Don’t worry, I was so full that I think I should pay more.
Mentoring really rocks! I love you guys so much!
