Chingay Parade 2008
with photos
It has ended yesterday. Conclusion: I have not regretted participating in it even though I wasted some of my precious time on the training. = p Most importantly, I made new friends. =D
No words can express the joy and fun I had especially on the actual day. The fun only came in near to the end of the parade. About 1.5 hours before the parade on both preview and actual day, we had to stand there to get ready. Luckily, I had a friend standing 2 barricades beside me so we could rant to each other about the boredom and tiredness of standing there having nothing to do and about the guy (in our group) who stood beside me. Both of us and the other girl do not like him and could not stand him. Ha
I really tried my best to cheer the crowd behind me. It really took me some courage to do so especially when people (fellow crowd control mates) standing opposite of me and my left side were not high and the audience too. Imagine I kept shouting, screaming and whistling without getting any response? It was quite embarrassing at times but for the sake of once in a lifetime event of my life (hopefully not but I am getting old. Ha), I shall do so.
I finally got to know how the floats work (they were less than 2 meters away from me so it was really a close view) and interacted with the performers.
I love the F1 car the most. At first, I really thought what is so big deal of it. My friend and I did not know it was so exciting until we watched it there. The engine sound and the speed really made us go wild and scream.
There were about 1200 or so volunteers in this Chingay Dreamteam. They divided the whole area into 7 sectors and I was at sector 6 (Marina sector and I will always remember where I stood) which is why we had to wait quite long for the first float to arrive. They started to gather volunteers from sector 1 and until we saw a big group of them, the logistic mates roller bladed towards us to ask us to join them. So, we excitedly ran towards them!
We cheered and waved to all the audiences as we walked. It was so fun and exciting! We sweated a lot and screamed to the top of our voices.
It is photos time!
My tag with my sec 2 photo and my blue whistle! =D (I got too high that I lost my purple whistle. = p)
These were taken after the preview when the crowd had left and we were not allowed to go off first.
Me and Seok Han (the aquarius girl whom I talked about in one of my previous entries) on the preview day at the volunteer tentage at Singapore Recreation Club.
Me and Sabrina (the one who stood beside me)when we were having our extremely early dinner (how early? not even 4p.m.) on the actual day at the volunteer tentage at Singapore Recreation Club.
The 3 of us! I will always remember all the nice times we had at all the trainings, journeys home, laughs, jokes and everything! Thanks girls! Love you girls! =D
Sabrina and I in the middle of the celebration. If you realise, the people standing behind us are our fellow Chingay Dreamteam. After walking for a distance (i.e. cheering, waving, etc. Yes, all 1200+ of us), the Excos would ask us to stop (don't ask me why) so we made use that time to take this. We were quite sweaty at that time but we really, really enjoyed ourselves to the extreme and want to join their upcoming event "Connecting Singapore!" =D
Sitting down and getting ready to be called back group by group to the volunteer tentage.
We got this from the performers because some would throw some gifts to the crowd. I guess we were not supposed to. ha
I have too much to say but I shall make it simple. A big Thank You to all I met in this event. This is something which I will remember for life! =)
I am not being crazy but try using the keyword "Chingay Dreamteam", you will find that a lot of us are blogging about this. =D
